Hi guys,
I have done the KHT ( Korean Hand Therapy) course in Korea and it is a very accurate and interesting microsystem that this guy, Dr. Yoo, have founded.
It has similar meridian system as the body, but actually less points than on the body ( 345 main ). It does treat according to 8 principles, 5 elements and 3 costitutions. In Korea they also divide people into 4 main categories, which also takes effect in treatment. KHT uses some interesting methods for differential diagnosis, as the Hara diagnosis and the O-ring test to confirm constitution and establish treatment principles.
I've been practicing it for a while and the correspondence of the hand to the body is amazing, and very effective for an immediate response.
The Book By Dr. Tae Woo Yoo - Koryo Hand Therapy is the only English translation to this system, as the rest are not translated yet.

Thanks Ophir-
do you know of anywhere in Australia that sells the specialised equipment recommended for KHT?
I've found that I can't insert the needles as well as I would like in some spots- I think it's a bit easier if you have the point locator/guide tube thingy Yoo describes...
(Or maybe I'm finding it more difficult because I'm needling my own hand...)
Tim.

Ophir, can you say a bit more about the "four main categories?" I'm curious.
Thankyou,
Lucy

Hi Ophir,

Probably the strangest of questions coming from an acupuncturist but...... does it hurt??(Considering the hand points are generally more sensitive than body points).

Take care,

Sean.

Hi,
In regards to accesories for Hand acupuncture, I'm afraid that you can't really find them in Australia but I'm definately keen to help and arrange shippment from Korea(as I was closly related to the KHT centre). There are many interesting items, including special needles, metal specific insertor, bands with silver and gold balls, moxa for the hand and others.
There is an option to find some stuff on the net, from the states, though I'm not sure about the price. welcome to contact me to find out more about Hand therapy products.

In regards to pain threshold, I think it is not a painful acupuncture. It is true that needling the hand seems like a sensitive area, but the insertion is quite shallow and the proper method overcome pain. I can compare it to body acupuncture. There will always be sensitive points.
Cheers.

Body Types

Postby ophir_Qi » Mon Mar 13, 2006 1:52 am

Dear Lucy,
generaly Korean oriental therapy consider 4 main body types :
Big Yang (*2)
Big Yang small Yin
Big Yin (*2)
Big yin small Yang
Every person is one of those ie: big yang big yang ( which is similar to Fire type, but not exactly).
More over, there is consideration to sides of body. Imbalance can be found differently on each side of body (eg: L side HT vac., R side - KD vac.) and the treatment accordingly.
thanks.
