Getting the message of acupuncture through to children

Postby roslyn motter » Mon Mar 12, 2007 4:39 am

My name is Roslyn Motter. I graduated from UTS about 4 years ago and since then, a few of my friends have been forced out of business because they can't get enough clients. With this in mind I decided to write a series of children's books (The Adventures of the Doofuzz Dudes) which introduce children to the concept of acupuncture but in a fantasy/adventure story context.
I am currently visiting schools right across the Sydney Metropolitan area reading the books and asking the kids if they know what acupuncture is. The books have been a big hit at these schools and I feel that this is the only way we're going to build up our customer base - from grass roots level.
Acupuncture definitely needs more promotion if it wants to continue to cut into more of that huge market dominated by the AMA.

Hi,

I recently visited friends of mine who work with National Parks in Uluru, Central Australia. Their nearest town, Yulara, is about 25 Km away.

So Doofuzz dudes are now in the Australian outback! Apparently Elaan and Jai (pictured) took the books to 'show and tell' at Yulara Public School today, which their Dad believes is a great sign of how much they're liked!

I'm waiting for a full review!

Cheers

Forced out of business??

Postby arcticwolf » Sat May 26, 2007 11:55 am

Acupuncture in Vic is a booming business and very easy to get through to patients. I treat whole families even new borns. Why is sydney so different. Do you have a website for your books and kids in my clinic would love them.

one of the reasons is you are a statutory registered professional in victoria. that makes a significant difference in the minds of clients. similar things happened when chiropractic was registered in this country many years ago. while registration is primarily for protection of the public, it has flow on benefits to the profession. it is however, very difficult to convince some people of the benefits of registration for all - consumers and practitioners, they prefer to work in an unregulated environment thinking that it affords some sort of freedom that registered professionals do not have.
